The following criteria determine your eligibility for OAS benefits, and they depend on whether or not you live in Canada:
Regarding Canadian residents
- You must be 65 years old to receive Canada OAS.
- You must live in Canada to receive Canadian OAS.

- You must be 65 years old to receive Canada OAS.
- You must have been a Canadian citizen or legal resident on the day before you left Canada.

OAS pension payment 2023 dates
For spouses or spouses of LI old-age pension recipients (ages 60-64), the OAS grant is a monthly benefit. The amount of these benefits depends on your marital status and your previous year’s income. The maximum monthly payment for GIS, Support and Support Allowance is changed four times a year according to the consumer price index, as in the OAS pension.
How to claim an OAS supplement?
Applying for an old age pension is optional. Service Canada will send you one of the following 64 next month:
- A letter stating that default registration has been selected for you. If the information in the letter is correct, you can proceed without applying for OAS here.
- OAS pension payment 2023 will be automatically paid to you in the month after your 65th birthday.
- A letter describing your potential eligibility for OAS and application. You must then apply for OAS immediately.
The form sent with the letter must be completed and sent to Service Canada. You must submit the OAS Supplemental Form 2023-24 as soon as possible for your application to be reviewed and payments to begin the month after your 65th birthday. You should apply for an OAS pension as soon as possible if you turned 64 and did not receive a letter from Service Canada that month.
