Social Security: These People Will Receive Triple Payments in December 2025

Some people will get three Social Security-related payments in December 2025 because of the SSI schedule shift. December’s SSI check comes on December 1 and January’s payment arrives early on December 31.

Social Security Payments in December 2025: Many people who get Social Security already know their money stays the same until the new year. The next raise only comes when the cost-of-living adjustment starts. But this December has a strange twist that only happens when the dates fall in a special way. A small group of seniors will see three payments before the month ends, even though their total money for the year does not change at all.

How the Social Security Payment Dates usually Work?

Social Security normally follows a simple schedule. The payment day depends on the person’s birthday. People who were born from the 1st to the 10th get their money on the second Wednesday. Birthdays from the 11th to the 20th get paid on the third Wednesday. Anyone with a birthday after the 21st gets their deposit on the fourth Wednesday. Most people fit into one of those groups.

Some people use a different schedule. If someone started getting Social Security before May 1997, they still get their money on the 3rd day of each month. SSI works on a different rule too. SSI is supposed to pay on the first day of the month.

But if the first day is on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment moves to the last business day before it. This small rule shapes the monthly budget for many low-income seniors, blind people, and people with disabilities.

Why some are getting 3 Payments in December?

The normal Social Security checks will not change at all this year. The special part comes from SSI. December’s SSI money will show up on December 1 like usual. But the January 2026 SSI payment cannot land on January 1 because it is a federal holiday. So the government moves that payment to December 31. This creates a moment where SSI recipients get two SSI deposits in December, plus their regular Social Security payment if they get one.

This does not mean extra cash, it only means the January payment comes one day early. The total amount stays the same for the whole year. Still for families struggling with end-of-year bills, the earlier deposit may feel like a small break.

Most people get their money through direct deposit now. Some still use government debit cards. Payments are usually on time, but sometimes banks take one more day to finish the process. If someone does not see their money when they expect it, they should contact Social Security right away.
