The Social Security Administration (SSA) has already shared the payment calendar for the month. Most people will get their money on one of three Wednesdays. The exact day depends on the person’s birthday.

August 2026 SSDI Payment Dates

If you receive SSDI and started getting Social Security benefits after May 1997, your payment date depends on the day you were born.

  • If your birthday is from the 1st to the 10th, your payment is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
  • If your birthday is from the 11th to the 20th, your payment should arrive on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
  • If your birthday is from the 21st to the 31st, your payment is set for Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Some people follow a different payment schedule. Anyone who started getting Social Security benefits before May 1997 usually receives their Social Security payment on the 3rd day of each month. Since August 3, 2026 falls on a Monday, those beneficiaries are expected to get their payment that day. People who receive both SSDI and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) also follow this separate schedule.

How the SSA Decides your Payment Date?

Social Security Disability Insurance helps people who cannot work because of a qualifying disability. To receive SSDI, a person must have worked and earned enough work credits by paying Social Security taxes during their working years. Unlike SSI, SSDI isn’t mainly based on income or savings. It is based on work history and disability rules.

For most people, the SSA uses birthdays to decide when monthly payments are sent.

  • Birthdays from the 1st through the 10th are paid on the second Wednesday.
  • Birthdays from the 11th through the 20th are paid on the third Wednesday.
  • Birthdays from the 21st through the 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday.

What about SSI Payments?

SSI follows different rules. These payments are usually sent on the first day of every month. If the first day falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment is sent on the last business day before it.

What to do if your Payment is Late?

The SSA says direct deposit is still the fastest and safest way to receive monthly benefits. In most cases, the money reaches a person’s bank account on the scheduled payment date. Some banks may take a little longer to process deposits.

If your payment does not arrive on the expected day, the SSA advises waiting at least three mailing days before contacting the agency. People can also sign in to their personal my Social Security account to check payment dates, update direct deposit details, look at benefit statements, and read important notices from the SSA.
