Best Bank Switch Deals September 2026: HSBC £500, Santander £240 and More

For people who qualify, the switch can be quick. The Current Account Switch Service, or CASS, says it can take as little as seven working days. It moves payments and then shuts the old account.

Best Bank Switch Deals September 2026: In September 2026, UK bank switching deals are getting attention again. More than one bank is paying customers if they switch their current account. Some offers are for several hundred pounds. The top headline figure is £500. At the same time, Santander is advertising what many people can claim as the best common cash bonus, £240.

For people who qualify, the switch can be quick. The Current Account Switch Service, or CASS, says it can take as little as seven working days. It moves payments and then shuts the old account. Even so, banks still set their own terms. That includes who is eligible, what minimum deposit is needed, and what spending must be done.

Best Bank Switch Deals September 2026

  • HSBC Premier: £500
  • Santander Everyday: £240
  • HSBC Bank Account: £220
  • NatWest Select/Reward: £200
  • Co-operative Bank: Up to £200
  • First Direct: £175
  • Nationwide: £175

HSBC

The biggest September switching bonus is from HSBC, but it is not a standard offer for everyone.

Eligible new customers can receive £500 when they complete a full switch to an HSBC Premier Account through CASS and either have a salary of at least £100,000 or transfer at least £100,000 in savings or investments.

HSBC is also offering an additional £290 cashback opportunity to eligible Premier customers who take out its Premier World Elite Mastercard, although the card carries a £290 annual fee. The £500 switching offer began on 27 July 2026 and can be withdrawn at any time.

For customers who don’t qualify for Premier, HSBC currently has a separate £220 switching offer on its standard Bank Account. This requires a full switch, two Direct Debits, £2,000 paid in and £500 of debit-card spending within the required period.

Santander

For most people looking for a straightforward cash incentive, Santander’s £240 offer is one of the strongest deals available in September.

The offer applies to the Santander Everyday Current Account and is available for switch requests made between 1 September and 7 October 2026.

To qualify, customers must:

  • Complete a full switch using CASS
  • Have at least two qualifying household Direct Debits
  • Pay in £1,500
  • Put at least £200 into a Santander Regular Saver
  • Complete the requirements within 60 days

Santander says the £240 payment should arrive within around 90 days of the initial switch request if all eligibility requirements are met. The Everyday Current Account has no monthly fee, while its linked Regular Saver currently pays 8% AER variable, including a 5% bonus for the first 12 months, on savings of up to £200 a month.

HSBC

If the £500 Premier deal is out of reach, HSBC’s standard £220 switch offer is another option.

New customers need to open an HSBC Bank Account, complete a full CASS switch including two Direct Debits, pay in £2,000 and spend £500 on the debit card within 60 days.

HSBC says the offer is for new customers and excludes people who have held an HSBC UK or First Direct current account since 1 January 2023.

NatWest

NatWest is offering £200 to eligible customers who switch to either its Select or Reward current account.

Customers need to complete a full switch through CASS, pay in £1,250 within 60 days and log in to the NatWest mobile app. The £200 is then paid into the eligible account within 30 days of meeting the conditions.

The offer is available to people who didn’t hold a NatWest current account on 6 May 2026 and who haven’t previously received a qualifying switch offer.

Co-operative Bank

The Co-operative Bank’s current switching incentive can pay up to £200, made up of an initial £125 payment and a further £75 for actively using the account over three months.

However, this offer has a particularly important deadline: the bank says applications or switch requests must be made by 7 September 2026.

The bank previously offered an additional £100 loyalty bonus to some existing customers, but that part of the promotion ended on 17 August.

Nationwide

Nationwide has also been offering a £175 switching bonus for customers moving an eligible current account to the building society through CASS.

The offer requires a full switch from an eligible non-Nationwide/non-Virgin Money account, and customers must meet the applicable eligibility conditions.

What is the Current Account Switch Service?

The Current Account Switch Service (CASS) is designed to make changing banks relatively simple.

When you request a full switch through CASS, your regular payments and incoming payments are moved to the new account and the old account is closed. The Current Account Switch Guarantee means an eligible switch is completed within seven working days and provides protection if something goes wrong.

Can you really make £500 from switching banks?

Yes, but the £500 amount needs some context.

The £500 HSBC Premier bonus is real. Still, it is not for most people. The entry rules are tougher than the usual switching offers. In general, you need either a £100,000 plus salary or £100,000-plus held in savings or investments.

For most customers, the better expectation for September 2026 is closer to about £175 to £240 for one switch. Santander is offering about £240 right now. HSBC’s regular account rate is £220. NatWest is at £200.
