Apply online through the OSAP website. Students don’t need to apply separately for a loan and a grant. OSAP considers them through the same application.
First, register for an OSAP account. You’ll need your Social Insurance Number (SIN) and some basic personal information. Keep your OSAP Access Number and password safe because you’ll need them again later.
After creating your account, choose the right OSAP application and enter your school and program information. You’ll also need to provide tax and income information. Depending on your situation, OSAP may ask for information about your parents or spouse.
First-time full-time students and students applying for micro-credential funding must also complete an online OSAP information module before they can open the application. The module takes around 15 minutes if completed in one sitting.
Don’t leave your OSAP application until the last minute. Full-time students and part-time students with study periods of 21 weeks or more must normally apply at least 60 days before their study period ends.
For part-time programs lasting 20 weeks or less, the deadline is normally 40 days before the study period ends. Micro-credential students have different rules and must submit their application by the end of their study period.
OSAP may ask you to provide extra documents, signature pages or declarations. These documents may need to be uploaded online, mailed or given to your school’s financial aid office. But for for full-time and part-time students, required documents generally need to reach the financial aid office at least 40 days before the end of the study period.
After you apply, you can check your OSAP account to see if your application has been processed. Your account can also show whether more documents are needed, how much funding you may receive and when the money will become available.
