Latvia completes Canada’s second-round FIBA World Cup group. Tuesday, the Canadians defeated the Latvians by a score of 101-75 to secure first place in the division.

This victory was crucial for Canada, as all first-round records carried over to the second group stage.

In the second round, each team faces the two other teams from its division that it did not face in the first round. That would be Spain and Brazil for Canada. The top two teams with the greatest combined records from both group stages then advance to the quarterfinals, while the bottom two teams are eliminated and ranked ninth through sixteenth.

The Canadians’ plus-111 point differential through their first three games is the best in the tournament, eight points higher than the American powerhouses’ plus-103 point differential.

Both Brazil and Spain are veteran teams that will put Canada’s youth and depth to the test. In a pre-tournament exhibition game, which Canada won 85-80 in overtime, the Canadians faced the Spanish team.
