Yes, each team would have a budget of 100 crore to build their squad for the 2024 season. This is a 5 crore increase over the previous season’s purse of 95 crore.

When do teams have to announce their retention list?

The deadline for all ten IPL franchises to declare their list of retained players is Sunday, November 26. The trade window will close on Sunday as well.

How Many Players Have Been Traded So Far?

Only three players have been traded ahead of the most recent IPL auction. In the first transfer, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) traded West Indies bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd to the Mumbai Indians (MI) for his existing cost of Rs 50 lakh.

The Lucknow Super Giants have transferred Indian pacer Avesh Khan to the Rajasthan Royals (RR). In return, the Rajasthan Royals have traded Devdutt Padikkal to the Lucknow Super Giants. During the IPL 2022 mega auction, Lucknow initially acquired Avesh Khan for 10 crore. RR on the other hand, secured Devdutt Padikkal for 7.75 crore. This exchange marks a strategic shift in team composition as both players don new jerseys for the upcoming season.

Hardik Pandya, the seasoned all-rounder, is reportedly likely to quit the Gujarat Titans (GT). He will return to the Mumbai Indians, the franchise where he began his IPL career in 2015.
According to ESPNcricinfo, MI will pay Pandya’s salary and an undisclosed transfer fee to the Gujarat Titans in an all-cash deal. According to the article, Pandya might receive up to 50% of the transfer money.

Which celebrities have opted out of the IPL 2024?

Ben Stokes, an all-rounder for England who cost Chennai Super Kings (CSK) a whopping 16.25 crore, has chosen to withdraw from the IPL 2024 in order to manage his workload and fitness. It remains to be seen whether CSK will release him before the auction.

According to a statement on their website, the franchise supported Stokes’ decision. Due to injury and health concerns, the star cricketer only played two matches for CSK during the IPL 2023 season.

Australia’s World Cup heroes Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins are actively considering participation in the IPL 2024 auction, according to sources. Head struck a magnificent century to upset hosts India in the 2023 World Cup final. Starc last played in the Indian T20I competition in 2015. While Cummins opted out of the IPL 2023 owing to a full international schedule.

Franchises may seek high demand for other 2023 World Cup heroes like Rachin Ravindra, Gerald Coetzee, and Azmatullah Omarzai if they choose to auction their names.

Gautam Gambhir is back at KKR

Another noteworthy event ahead of the IPL 2024 auction is the return of former India opener Gautam Gambhir to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise as team mentor. In the 2022 and 2023 seasons, he played the same role for LSG. Gambhir led KKR to two IPL championships in 2012 and 2014.
