South Korean association football player Casey Yu-Jin Phair was born on June 29, 2007, and he presently resides in the United States. She is the first player of mixed racial descent to be selected for the South Korean women’s national team.

When she entered South Korea’s game against Colombia in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on July 25, 2023, at the age of 16 years and 26 days, she made history as the youngest player to play in a FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Her parents, an American mother and a South Korean father, both reside in South Korea. Her family moved to the United States when she was a month old. She resides in Warren Township, New Jersey, where she attends the Players Development Academy (PDA) for training and plays football for the Pingry School.

Who is Casey Phair?

Prior to getting called up to the senior team for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, Phair played for South Korea’s under-17 squad. She helped the under-17 team qualify for the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup by scoring three goals against Hong Kong and two goals against Tajikistan’s women’s national under-17 football team.

When Phair entered as a substitute in South Korea’s opening game against Colombia at the age of 16 years and 26 days, she made history at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The honour was already held by Ifeanyi Chiejine.

Players remained loose around the goal throughout South Korea’s Women’s World Cup opening match against Colombia on Tuesday. One player separated himself from the group at the start of the 78th minute. At 16 years and 26 days old, Casey Phair entered the game and made history as the youngest player to play in either the women’s or men’s World Cup.

Phair, who was raised in America and has an American father and a South Korean mother, admitted, “Going on, I was really, really nervous.” It was frightening at first, but as we continued to move around, I believe it became more normal.

The previous holder of the record was the late Ifeanyi Chiejine, who represented Nigeria in the 1999 Women’s World Cup at the age of 16 years, 34 days.

Carrer

Phair played 17 minutes in the 2-0 loss for South Korea and was often in close proximity to the ball, vying with Colombian players for possession whenever possible.

Collin Bell, the head coach of South Korea, remarked that “she deserved the chance to play.” She trained exceptionally well, on par with anyone.

Phair, who was born on June 29, 2007, is the first male or female player of mixed ancestry to play for a senior national team of South Korea.

Phair expressed her pride and honour at being the first mixed-gender player for the Korean Federation. “I really value the chance you gave me today,”

Phair is not the only rising star competing in the Women’s World Cup this year. Despite the fact that both of the two 16-year-old athletes were born in 2008, they are both on tournament squads. Sheika Scott came on as a substitute for Costa Rica in its 3-0 defeat to Spain on Friday, while Giulia Dragoni began for Italy, donning the No. 16, in its 1-0 victory over Argentina on Monday.
