MultiVersus Returns in 2024 with New Mode, Characters, and Major Updates

MultiVersus, a free-to-play platform brawler, has been published with an open beta, revealing additional characters and significant changes for its 2024 release.

MultiVersus, a free-to-play platform brawler, is coming back. Despite the developer’s claim of an open beta, it was previously published with purchasable editions, however, it was quickly taken offline and withdrawn from shops. We now know the official release date for MultiVersus’s 2024 comeback, in addition to the thrilling confirmation of a new mode, additional characters, and quite significant changes.

Player First Games stated that MultiVersus will return at some point in 2024, even after closing its doors in June 2023. However, the details were unclear for a while. But the company started teasing a massive MultiVersus reveal, leading many fans to speculate that this would be the big release reveal that was first announced for later this year.

That’s precisely what happened, as MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh revealed in a new clip, not just the official launch date but also some of the most significant changes made to the game in response to player feedback.

What the Player First Games team has been up to in the months since MultiVersus’ open beta ended was made clear in the most recent development update. The team has made several gameplay adjustments while sorting through data and feedback.

One significant announcement is that MultiVersus has moved to Unreal Engine 5 and has been completely rebuilt with new netcode. New attacks and battle techniques have been added to the characters, and Huynh has indicated that there will be more levels and players added to the roster. At last, a brand-new PvE game mode that gives players fresh gameplay options and rewards to achieve was hinted at.

When will MultiVersus 2024 be available?

The revival of MultiVersus is scheduled for May 28, 2024. The official multiverses Twitter account, which features a video message from Tony Huynh, the game director and co-founder, attests to this.

It is revealed in this video address that the game is coming back and will once again be available for free to play. He claims that the production team has been working hard to create an experience that makes a lasting impression on the platform fighter genre and that they have learned a lot from the community’s feedback during the “open beta.”

2024 MultiVersus mode update

A whole new PvE mode is one of the exciting innovations coming to MultiVersus in 2024. The game used to only be PvP in 1v1 or 2v2, but it will soon add a PvE mode that will provide players with an additional gameplay option. Regretfully, the game director doesn’t provide any more context than PvP, which offers a fresh gameplay experience and exclusive rewards.

It has been verified that the game has moved from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, in addition to adding a new PvP mode. This will enhance the characters’ appearance and likeness. The director of the game gave the specific example of Shaggy Sandwiches appearing better than ever.

The most exciting news for fighting game aficionados will be that the game has been entirely redesigned to work with a new netcode. “Consistent, world-class online play so everything will be delivered with pinpoint accuracy” is what this will offer. It is guaranteed that the performance of the game will remain constant across all platforms.

New Characters introduced

The game director also makes brief mentions of upcoming characters and stages. Marvin the Martian from Looney Tunes is one of the revealed characters; sadly, there isn’t a list of further characters or backdrops for the game.

It’s known that old characters will have new movesets with unique attacks and battle systems, which is equally exciting as a cast of new characters. For those who experienced the game during the “open beta” and have already mastered some of the current combatants, such Wonder Woman and Batman, this is incredibly exciting.

On May 28th, MultiVersus will be accessible on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X/S, and Steam.

In other gaming news, the Dragon’s Dogma 2 demo is currently available for free download on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, and big video game releases are scheduled for March 2024.
