Early Life

American physician-scientist Anthony Stephen Fauci was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 24, 1940, and has many years of experience. Stephen Fauci, who had a drugstore in Dyker Heights, and Eugenia Lilian were his parents. He is of Italian and Swiss ancestry. Regis High School was Fauci’s school. He studied at College of the Holy Cross, where he earned a pre-medical track B.A. in classics in 1962. After that, he enrolled in Cornell University’s Medical College, where he earned his doctor of medicine in 1966. In 1968, Fauci finished his residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.

Career

Following his training in medicine, Fauci worked as a clinical associate at the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (N.I.A.I.D.). He was appointed Head of the Clinical Physiology Section of the Laboratory in 1974. Fauci was named Chief of the N.I.A.I.D.’s Immunoregulation Laboratory in 1980. He was appointed Director of N.I.A.I.D. in 1984 and continues to serve in this capacity. Fauci has seen numerous advancements in medicine.

He created treatments for conditions including lymphomatoid granulomatosis, granulomatosis with polyangiitis, and polyarteritis nodosa, which were previously fatal. He was one of the top researchers during the 1980s AIDS crisis and has also contributed to our understanding of how HIV undermines the body’s immune system. Fauci has advised several presidents on medical matters. He accepted President-elect Joe Biden’s invitation to work as the President’s Chief Medical Advisor in December 2020. Fauci received an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Michigan in 2022.
