Arijit Singh was born on April 25, 1987, in Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal to a Punjabi Sikh father Kakkar Singh and Bengali Hindu mother Aditi Singh. During the Partition, his paternal ancestors left Lahore. He began his musical training at home at a very tender age. His maternal relative was classically trained in Indian music, and his maternal grandmother used to sing. His mother also sang and played the tabla, as did his maternal uncle.
He attended Raja Bijay Singh High School and then Sripat Singh College, an affiliate of the University of Kalyani. According to him, he was a respectable student, but his passion was music, so his parents decided to train him professionally.
