Warsi was born in Mumbai to a Muslim family. His father, Ahmed Ali Khan (Ashiq Hussain), was a musician in Hindi films and took the name Warsi after becoming a devotee of the Sufi saint Waris Ali Shah. Due to his father’s first marriage to actress Ranjana Sachdev, Arshad is the half-brother of vocalist Anwar Hussain and actress Asha Sachdev. He attended Barnes School in Deolali, Nashik district, Maharashtra for his education.14 years old and orphaned, he struggled to make a livelihood in Bombay during his early years.
