In the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Wentz as the second overall pick. He accepted a $26.67 million contract with a $17.6 million incentive to play for the team.
He was officially declared a starter in September 2016 and started his first game regularly against the Cleveland Browns. For his first week of playing professionally, he was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. He was later selected as the N.F.C. Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Steelers. He was again selected the N.F.C. Offensive Player of the Week for the seventh week of the 2017 season, and he was a contender for the N.F.L. Most Valuable Player award. On June 6, 2019, the Philadelphia Eagles extended Wentz’s contract for another four years, ending in 2024. Of the $128 million contract, a guaranteed $107 million was signed.
