Her son’s 2005 album “Late Registration” was influenced by Donda West’s tune “Hey Mama.” Her first book, “Raising Kanye: Life Lessons From the Mother of a Hip-Hop Superstar,” was published in 2007.
She passed away on November 10, 2007 in Marina del Rey, California. Before her passing, West underwent multiple fat removal procedures. On that day, she underwent a stomach tuck, breast reduction, and liposuction. She requested to be permitted to return home after a brief period of surgery. West was adamant in her refusal to remain for observation, despite the doctor’s advice. She experienced severe chest and throat agony upon her return home, and she was declared dead on arrival at the hospital due to coronary artery disease. By providing financial assistance, she encouraged and supported her son’s desire to pursue a career in music as a mother. Due to his deep affection for his mother, West could not ignore her legacy. As a tribute to his mother, he resolved to release the album “Donda” on August 6. The album was published under the Good Music and Def Jam labels in 2021.
