Before the Great Depression, his family had a lot of money, but they lost everything. Martin loved to read and write stories ever since he was a kid. He even sold other kids his stories.

Martin read a lot of comic books in high school and became really into Marvel comics. Even now, he still says that Stan Lee is one of his favorite writers.

In 1971, George R.R. Martin got his Master of Science in writing from the Medill School of writing at Northwestern University. He joined the army in the Vietnam War not long after getting his diploma. Martin did community service instead of going to the military because he didn’t want to serve his country.

How did George R. R. Martin get well-known?

Martin, who lives in Bayonne, New Jersey, came from a simple background.

He told New Jersey Monthly, “We didn’t have much money. My dad worked as a longshoreman and my mom worked in the Maidenform factory in Bayonne when I was older.” “I had two little sisters.” We lived in public housing projects on First Street. I went to school on Fifth Street, and that was pretty much my whole world, from First Street to Fifth Street. Well, except in my mind, because I read so much science fiction, fantasy, and other types of books.

He started writing scary stories for other kids when he was young in trade for small amounts of money. He liked comic books, especially Stan Lee’s work with Marvel, by the time he was in high school. He also won a contest for fan writing, and his letter was printed in an of Fantastic Four.

He earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in writing from Northwestern University’s Medill School of writing. In 1971, he released his first professionally written science fiction short story. Martin was a writer and also worked as a professor at Clarke University and at chess tournaments to make ends meet.

He went to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to focus on his writing work full-time after his close friend Tom Reamy died there in 1979. He specialized in horror and science fiction.

His first movie, Nightflyers, was based on a short story he wrote in 1980. He co-wrote the script, and it came out in 1987. Since then, he has admitted that the movie saved his writing career, even though he wasn’t completely happy with the result (parts of the plot were changed for financial reasons).

After the 1983 failure of the book The Armageddon Rag to make money, Martin thought about joining the Haviland Tuf adventure book team. But before he could, he got an offer to write for the TV shows Max Headroom, Beauty and the Beast, and then a new season of The Twilight Zone. In the 1990s, Martin started writing books again. In August 1996, A Song of Ice and Fire, his first Game of Thrones book, came out.
