HasanAbi was born Hasan Doan Piker in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on July 25, 1991. HasanAbi’s parents are Turkish, and he was harassed at school in Istanbul for questioning Islam and being unfit. He returned to the United States to attend the University of Miami. Later, HasanAbi transferred to Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he majored in both communication studies and political science, graduating with honors in 2013. Uncle HasanAbi is the progressive political commentator Cenk Uygur, who created the popular news commentary program “The Young Turks.”

HasanAbi Biography: HasanAbi completed an externship with “The Young Turks” (“TYT”) as a senior in college. After graduating, he was recruited to work in the department of ad sales and business. He requested to host “The Young Turks” whenever a replacement was required, and he later served as both a host and producer on the show. HasanAbi hosted the “TYT” Network series “The Breakdown” on Facebook in 2016, which he also created. The program targeted millennial Bernie Sanders supporters and was nominated for Best Web Series at the 2018 Shorty Awards. From 2016 to 2018, HasanAbi contributed political articles to the progressive news website “HuffPost.” In 2020, he created and hosted “Agitprop with Hasan Piker,” another “TYT” series. HasanAbi Biography: HasanAbi adopted a mongrel in April 2023 and gave her the Turkish name Kaya, which means “rock.” A DNA analysis revealed that Kaya is a combination of Tibetan Mastiff, Chow Chow, and Saint Bernard. HasanAbi has advocated for LGBTQ+ rights, universal health care, and firearms control and has been described as a leftist, a progressive, and a democratic socialist. He supported Bernie Sanders in the 2016 and 2020 Democratic and Republican presidential primaries. During a simulcast in August 2019, HasanAbi criticized Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a veteran of SEAL Team 3, for his support of U.S. military interventionism overseas and made controversial remarks about the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
