She and her sister Maya were members of both a Black Baptist congregation and a Hindu temple during their youth. Ultimately, the young ladies and their mother made the decision to move to Montreal, Canada. Prior to attending Howard University in the United States to pursue political science and economics, Harris attended Westmount High School in Quebec.
