Resul Pookutty Biography: Resul Pookutty (born May 30th, 1971) is an Indian sound designer, sound editor, and audio mixer. He won the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for Slumdog Millionaire alongside Richard Pryke and Ian Tapp. In addition to British films, Pookutty has worked in Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam language films.

Early years
Born into a family in Vilakkupara, about 40 kilometres from Kollam, Kerala, India, near Anchal, in India. He was the third child of eight. His father inspected private bus tickets. As his village lacked electricity, Pookutty had to walk six kilometres to the nearest school and study by the light of a paraffin candle.
Between 1987 and 1990, he earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Milad-E-Sherief Memorial College in Kayamkulam. He enrolled at Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, but he was unable to graduate. 1995 marked his graduation from Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India. In 2012, he completed the remaining LLB examinations and became an attorney. Pookutty stated that his father desired for him to become an advocate.
Resul Pookutty Career
Pookutty and the cast of Slumdog Millionaire attended the 81st Academy Awards together. After earning his degree, Pookutty migrated to Mumbai. He referred to it as “a natural immigration as a graduate of the institute.” He stated, “Ninety-five per cent of the Mumbai film industry’s technicians are alumni of FTII, Pune.” Pookutty made his début in sound design with Rajat Kapoor’s 1997 film Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One. The critically acclaimed 2005 film Black, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was his breakthrough. Subsequently, he worked as a sound engineer on notable films such as Musafir (2004), Zinda (2006), Traffic Signal (2007), Gandhi, My Father (2007), Saawariya (2007), Dus Kahaniyaan, Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja (2009), and Enthiran (2010).

Resul Pookutty received the Distinguished Engineer award in 2016 from the New York-based Rocheston Accreditation Institute.
