Richard Williams and Oracene Price, her parents, functioned as her official coaches. Richard Williams, who would later found The Venus and Serena Williams Tennis/Tutorial Academy, was among the early coaches who helped her master the game. Serena and her family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida when she was nine years old so she could attend Rick Macci’s tennis academy. In 1995, their father removed his daughters from Macci’s academy and resumed his role as head coach.

In addition, she won the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open in the same year, defeating her sister Venus in the finals of each tournament. She won her fourth Grand Slam title, the Australian Open, in 2003.
