Lautner developed a strong interest in karate as a child and began competing as early as the age of 12. His desire to become an actor led to bullying at school as well. After being invited to practise with Chaturantabut for a number of years, Lautner won multiple junior world championships and earned his black belt at the age of eight. In 2003, he made his debut on television during a “ISKA” karate competition that was shown on E.S.P.N. Later, in 2006, he made an appearance on the sports-comedy programme “Cheap Seats.”

Lautner participated in a variety of extracurricular activities throughout junior high, such as karate, baseball, and hip-hop. He also received the “Best Smile” prize at his neighbourhood school. Until his sophomore year, Lautner attended Valencia High School in Santa Clarita, California. At that point, he started acting. He started off working for a little talent agency, travelling from Michigan to Los Angeles for auditions. While simultaneously learning jazz and hip-hop, Lautner was able to balance his careers in baseball, karate, and acting. In the end, he made the decision to relocate with his family to Santa Clarita, California, in 2002.

Small television and film parts, as well as a few advertisements and commercials, occupied Lautner’s first few months in Los Angeles.
