Tom Petty Biography: Thomas Earl Petty, who was born on October 20, 1950, was an actor, performer, songwriter, and record producer from the United States. A short time after beginning to play the instrument, he discontinued his education at the age of seventeen. His professional journey commenced with a band known as Mudcrutch. Since 1976, he has served as the primary guitarist and vocalist for “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.” Three Grammys were bestowed upon him during his career. He achieved solo success and was a member of the late 1980s supergroup The Traveling Wilburys. Today is his birthday, and we must do everything possible to celebrate.

Together with Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch, and Ron Blair, he established the original lineup of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers after relocating to Los Angeles. Their self-titled album was released in November 1976 and subsequently achieved success in the United Kingdom and the United States. Their third album, “Damn the Torpedoes,” also achieved considerable success and was among the band’s most successful. It was certified two times platinum in the United States and three times platinum in Canada.

1989 marked Petty’s début as a solo artist with the release of “Full Moon Fever.” In the United States, it peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and was a commercial triumph. He remained with his ensemble in spite of his success as a solo artist. Four additional albums were released by him and his ensemble over the subsequent two decades. The title of Petty’s 2006 solo album was “Highway Companion.” It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and was met with favorable reviews from critics. Petty appeared in the 1978 film “FM,” which marked the debut of the actor. On numerous episodes of the American sitcom “It’s Garry Sandlings’ Show,” he appeared. In addition to one episode of the legendary animated satire “The Simpsons,” he also provided the voice for several episodes of the equally popular “King of the Hill.”

Petty was wed to Jane Benyo from 1974 to 1996; the couple had two daughters. Petty disclosed that his opiate addiction had resulted in the dissolution of his marriage. After his 2001 wedding to Dana York, he assumed the role of stepfather to York’s son. He passed away on October 2, 2017, due to a severe cardiac arrest that was precipitated by an excessive dosage of prescription medications. He was interred at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery on October 16, 2017.
