FAMILY BACKGROUND
Tyler Herro was born in Greenfield, Wisconsin on January 20, 2000 to Chris and Jeniffer Herro. In his senior year at Greenfield’s Whitnall High School, he was named First Team All-State after averaging 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game. His field-goal percentage was greater than 50%, and his three-point percentage was 43.50%. Over the course of his high school career, he scored more than 2,000 points. In high school, he was awarded multiple scholarships, but he chose to attend the University of Wisconsin. Even before his junior year of high school, this commitment was made in September 2016. This did not last, as he de-committed on October 17, shortly after University of Kentucky coach John Calipari visited his high school to watch him play. Herro was offered a scholarship on October 31, and on November 14 of the same year, after visiting the University, he signed a letter of intent with Kentucky.
In college, Herro got an average of 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and became the only player to start in all 37 games played by the Kentucky Wildcats. He scored a career-high 29 points to help the Wildcats beat the Arkansas Razorbacks in a comeback victory. He declared for the 2019 NBA draught in April and hired an agent. In subsequent mock draughts, he was projected as a mid-first-round pick. During his college career, he was named to Basketball Times’ All-Freshman First Team and the Associated Press’ Southeastern Conference Rookie of the Year. Prior to being selected by the Miami Heat, Herro was voted the best shooter in the 2019 draught class by his fellow rookies. On October 23, 2019, he made his NBA debut against the Memphis Grizzlies after the Miami Heat announced his signing.

After the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics, he also became the youngest NBA player ever to participate in the NBA Final. He made 45 three-pointers in the 1997 NBA Playoffs, surpassing Matt Maloney’s previous record of 43.3 points per game (PM) for a rookie. On October 23, 2021, he became the first reserve player in Heat franchise history to record at least 30 points and 10 rebounds.
