National Girl Child Day 2023: Date, importance, significance, history and theme

Every year on January 24, India observes National Girl Child Day. The goal of commemorating this day is to raise awareness of the country’s discrimination against girls. The Ministry of Women and Child Development launched it in 2008.

Beti Bachao’s Beti Padhao began in 2015 with the goal of empowering women. The government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign is a great step forward for girls. Many important issues concerning girls and women are addressed through this. Many inhumane practises against women, such as female feticide, have now been abolished.

These campaigns have aided in changing people’s attitudes, particularly in rural areas, where there is a high level of awareness about girls’ education. These campaigns had a significant impact on people’s attitudes in society. Girls are now treated with the same respect and rights as boys.

On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, various campaigns are held on issues such as safety, education, sex ratio, and girls’ health. Through street plays, people are made aware. Let us remind you that women face gender discrimination not only in villages, but also in educated societies.

The theme for this year has not yet been announced. Last year’s theme was ‘Digital Generation, Our Generation, Our Time is Now – Our Rights, Our Future’.
