Year of Millets 2023: Information about coarse grains will be included in curriculum of basic and secondary education

Year of Millets 2023: The state government has also decided to include information on millets in the basic and secondary school curricula. In this regard, the Basic and Secondary Education Department has been instructed to include various crops of coarse grains (Shri Anna), their various products, and their importance in nutrition in the school curriculum.

Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra has issued instructions to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, and District Magistrates to promote the use of millets in the state. It has also been suggested that steps be taken to educate teachers about the health benefits of millets. So that he can inform the students about it. Teachers should educate students about the significance of coarse grains. The mid-day meal programme should include products made from coarse cereals.

Different types of coarse grain activities, such as identification, nutritional information, essay writing, quizzes, and project work, should be organised in schools. In the instructions issued regarding the strategy for the production and use of coarse grains in the context of the International Nutritious Grains Year-2023, the Department of Horticulture and Food Processing was asked to prioritise the establishment of coarse grain processing units.

The Agriculture Marketing Department has been tasked with securing locations for the sale of coarse grains and their products in various mandis throughout the state.
