It appears that a new Doctor Who trailer will air on BBC One this Saturday. This is how fans interpret the latest “glitch” on the network, which has used fake broadcast disruptions to promote forthcoming David Tennant-led Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials. The most recent of these errors revealed binary code that, when translated, reads “Their time has come, Saturday, September 23, BBC One, 6:10 p.m.”
The Doctor Who theme song is followed by the introduction of the Strictly Come Dancing theme when the video is played in reverse. Saturdays at 6:15 p.m. is the appropriate time to watch Strictly. The Doctor Who trailer (or preview, or anything you prefer to call it) should immediately transition into the dancing competition.
Less than two months remain until the premiere of the Doctor Who specials, so it is plausible that a trailer will be released. If the Strictly music indicates that Doctor Who intends to use the entire five minutes preceding the reality program, then the preview could be longer. Fans need only wait a few more days to learn.
Doctor Who’s New Era
Russell T. Davies returns to Doctor Who as the scriptwriter for the recently completed 14th season and anniversary specials. He has ambitious intentions for Doctor Who.
He believes Doctor Who should be a multi-show franchise on par with Star Wars, Star Trek, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the additional financial support from Disney, he may realize his vision. Currently, there are rumors that a UNIT spin-off featuring Jemma Redgrave is in the works.
“So I thought – with no criticism whatsoever towards the people who were running it at the time because they were running it within the BBC’s measures – it was time for the next stage for Doctor Who,” Davies told GQ in January. He also shared that he thought the streaming platforms were ready, the spin-offs were ready; and that he always believed in the spin-offs.
“I created Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures as spin-offs. I can see why these spin-offs dropped after I departed the company. After 2008, when money became scarce, I quit the public service broadcaster. I believe it is appropriate that the money is spent on other matters”, shared Davies.
Doctor Who returns…
In November, three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant as the fourteenth Doctor will broadcast. Catherine Tate accompanies him as Donna Noble, the Doctor’s companion, to combat Neil Patrick Harris’ antagonist.
Ncuti Gatwa makes his début as the Fifteenth Doctor in the Christmas Special of 2023. Season 14 of Doctor Who premieres in 2024.
