Each episode includes many mini-challenges where participants must battle for “toughness points” in addition to the main challenge. They must use an axe to chop wood, pull large rocks, drive nails into boards, and carry logs on their backs among other mini-challenges.
Former contestants and subject-matter experts make special appearances on the show to offer counsel and mentoring to the participants.
The participant with the greatest number of toughness points is proclaimed the champion and awarded the season’s grand prize. Winners also get a plaque and acknowledgment for their efforts on the show in addition to the monetary award.
