Ramos is best known for making the Gin Fizz, which is the most famous and best fizz drink. To make the Ramos Gin Fizz, you mix sugar and lemon juice together, then add ice and fizzy water on top. There are different opinions on who came up with the drink first. Some say that Henry’s brother, Henrico C. Ramos, made it, while others say that the famous bartender himself made it.

Henry C. Ramos, who was better known as Carl, went from Indiana to New Orleans with his brother. There, they opened their first bar, the Imperial Cabinet. The Gin Fizz is thought to be one of the best fizz drinks ever. It was first made in 1888. Dry gin, heavy cream, powdered sugar, lime juice, fresh lemon juice, egg white, and orange water were in the original recipe. After that, it is shaken very hard for 12 to 15 minutes. Finally, it is put into a glass and mixed with soda water. To save time, some bartenders make the dish easier by using a ready-made syrup instead of the original powdered syrup. This is because shaking takes a lot of work.

People have different ideas about which Ramos brother invented the gin fizz because both brothers owned their first café, the Imperial Cabinet. In any case, Henry Charles Ramos is credited with creating the drink. To make the Ramos Gin Fizz right, you need the right ingredients and the ability to shake the mixture for as long as it takes. When “shaker boys” were hired to shake the drink during Mardi Gras in 1915, it became clear how important it was to shake it very hard.

Around the late 1910s, the Prohibition Act made it illegal to make, sell, bring into the country, or move alcoholic drinks. Ramos could no longer sell Gin Fizz because of this new law until he died a few years later. There are rumors that Huey Pierce Long Jr. made Ramos Gin Fizz famous by bringing it with him on a business trip to New York. It was his “gift to New York.” Many people still make Ramos Gin Fizz the same way, but they add spices, fresh fruits, and liquors to make it their own.
