Revenge of the Fifth 2023: Date, History, Facts, Activities

Revenge of the Fifth, observed on May 5, is a play on words created by “Star Wars” enthusiasts to establish an annual date for commemorating the Revenge of the Sith. This day honours the Dark Side of the Force, as the previous day is primarily dedicated to the Jedi. The worldwide fanbase gathers to discuss, rewatch, and reread films and books from the saga, concentrating on the franchise’s primary antagonists.

The background of Revenge of the Fifth

The first “Star Wars” film was released in 1977. It was renamed “Episode IV: A New Hope” in 1999, the same year the prequel trilogy was released. Luke Skywalker, portrayed by Mark Hamill, and Captain Han Solo, portrayed by Harrison Ford, embark on an adventure to rescue Princess Leia, portrayed by Carrie Fisher, from the malevolent Imperial forces that have captured her. The film was immediately successful, expanding into a multi-media universe.

Soon after the release of the first film, two more were released, giving birth to the first film trilogy. The first installment of the second trilogy debuted in 1999. This film tells the narrative of Anakin Skywalker, a young boy who becomes embroiled in a power struggle between the Sith and the Jedi. The subsequent two films chronicled the evolution of both the conflict and the character, who became one of the most recognisable film villains. In 2015, the first installment of the third trilogy was released, and the narrative now follows Han Solo, Rey, and Finn as they attempt to defeat Kylo Ren.

The so-called Skywalker Saga is made up of the three trilogies. This legendary science-fiction universe is kept alive by numerous anthology films, such as “Rogue One” and “Solo,” and television series, such as “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett”
