The History of National Build Joy Day
Every year, on December 2nd, people across the country celebrate National Build Joy Day. In 2017, it was conceptualised by Taylor Morrison, a prestigious home builder and developer in the United States. The day is also meant to raise awareness of the importance of affordable housing and the role that volunteers can play in helping to address the issue.
In its first year, National Build Joy Day was celebrated in more than 25 cities across the country. HUD Secretary Julián Castro kicked off the day by volunteering at a Habitat for Humanity build site in Washington, D.C. since then, National Build Joy Day has continued to grow, with more than 100 events taking place across the country each year.
The day provides an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and make a difference in their communities. Volunteers can participate in activities such as painting, landscaping, or helping to build new homes from scratch. National Build Joy Day is also a time for people to learn about the importance of affordable housing and ways they can get involved in addressing the issue.
