Drinking the sweet, creamy, rum-based favourite Pia Colada transports you immediately to the sun-drenched, vibrant beaches of an island retreat. It is the ideal summer beverage and conveys the island spirit to you wherever you may be.
In 1954, the Pia Colada, a frothy and marvellously creamy mixture of pineapple, rum, and coconut cream, was invented in Puerto Rico. It is rumoured that on August 16, 1954, bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero prepared it for the first time at the Caribe Hilton’s Beachcomber Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico, despite the fact that its history is disputed among Puerto Ricans. The hotel requested that Monchito create a new signature drink that embodied the island’s flavours, and he accepted the challenge shortly thereafter. Regardless of its origin, we can all concur that this beverage is quite delicious. On July 10, we celebrate National Pia Colada Day, so relax with the tropical, frothy, alcoholic cocktail (preferably poured into a hurricane tumbler) and do the best possible thing with them… drink them!

This beverage is so delicious that people must chant about it!
Surely at least one individual can recite the world-famous Rupert Holmes song “Escape” if you inquire about it. If you enjoy Pia Coladas and getting trapped in the rain, you will enjoy this story. Some people believe that the pia colada was created by the pirate Roberto Cofres. Two bartenders from the Caribe Hilton Beachcomber Bar in Puerto Rico fought over the right to claim this cocktail as their own. Barrachina Restaurant asserts that its chief barman, Ramon Portos Mingot, concocted the drink. The Pia Colada is the official national cocktail of Puerto Rico.
