National Infertility Survival Day is observed annually on the Sunday before Mother’s Day to honour and provide assistance to those battling infertility. This year, it occurs on May 1. Equally as much as we value mothers and fathers, we value those coping with the inability to procreate. This year, we will join them in celebrating their successes in all aspects of life. Too many individuals are left behind in this world of conflict and survival.

This holiday was established in 2004 by Beverly Barna, author of “Infertility Sucks! Keeping Everything Together When Sperm And Egg Remain Recalcitrantly Separate.” This day coincides with the day she conceived following a period of infertility. She devised the day to comfort those battling infertility; after all, who better understands their plight than someone who has been in their shoes? Additionally, she operates a website where she raises awareness of fertility issues.
National Infertility Survival Day is a day that evokes strong emotions in many people, as it recalls them of the difficulty they or others face in conceiving a child. Typically, the day is observed to remind them that they are not fighting alone. In order to educate people about infertility, physical or virtual lectures are conducted. Gifts are exchanged between patients and distributed to patients.
In our attempt to assuage families with infertility issues, we may unwittingly cause them additional suffering, and as a result, some individuals may decide to conceal their problems for years. Therefore, let us celebrate them with affection and sensitivity.
