World Spine Day 2023: Date, Background, Facts

From the crack your back produces when you lift heavy objects to neck pains when you sleep in the wrong position, almost everyone on earth is familiar with the difficulties of back pain.

Back pain is one of the leading causes of disability throughout the globe, and on globe Spine Day, October 16, thousands of people celebrate and educate others about back and neck health. Who here has never encountered back pain in some form? From the crack your back produces when you lift heavy objects to neck pains when you sleep in the wrong position, almost everyone on earth is familiar with the difficulties of back pain. When your spine aches, everything seems to hurt. World Spine Day is a day to raise awareness of spine conditions, educate others on how to prevent or treat them, and be inspired to take better care of your back and neck health.

The background of World Spine Day

The World Federation of Chiropractic began celebrating World Spine Day in 2008. World Spine Day has been coordinated by the WFC and other concerned organisations worldwide for many years to raise awareness of back pain and other spinal issues.

Approximately one billion people worldwide endure from back pain, spinal pain, and associated disabilities. This includes individuals of all ages, genders, and races. There are approximately 7.6 billion persons on Earth. Back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and it is estimated that one in four adults will experience back pain at some point in their lives. With such shocking statistics, it is not surprising that World Spine Day is so important.

Each year, a clever punny theme is chosen to concentrate the day’s discussions and events. In 2012, the motif of the first World Spine Day was “Straighten Up and Move.” The World Federation of Chiropractic selected “Your Back in Action” as the theme for 2017’s activities. The slogan for 2018 was “Love Your Spine.” In 2019, the theme was “Get Your Spine Active.” In 2020, the situation was “Back on Track.”

World Spine Day seeks to raise awareness about spinal health and spine disorders among all stakeholders, provide a forum for ongoing discussion about the burden of spinal disorders, and promote an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to alleviating the burden of spinal disorders. This is particularly essential because millions of people around the world frequently lack knowledge of or access to conventional healthcare resources that can assist in the treatment of spinal pain and disability.

World Spine Day Activities

Exercise Exercise is essential every day, but on World Spine Day you can engage in activities that improve your back and neck health, such as hot yoga, cycling, or a simple fun run. You can exercise alone, locate a local event, or organise your own yoga class so that others can reap the benefits of the day.

Find out

On globe Spine Day, hundreds of health fairs and workshops are held all over the globe to educate people about spine health – what to do and what to avoid. Attending one of the World Spine Day events will allow you to learn more about your body and how to manage it more effectively.

Conduct classes

World Spine Day is the ideal occasion for healthcare professionals to educate those around them about the importance of spine health. Even if you are not a healthcare professional, you can be a hero by hiring a professional to educate your local community about spinal health. You can even organise a context-specific health fair wherever you are, such as by having a medical expert instruct your employees on office ergonomics. Annually, the World Federation of Chiropractic awards up to $600 in prizes to the finest World Spine Day events.
