New Delhi, July 22: The 68th National Film Awards winners were revealed on Friday. Suriya and Ajay Devgn will share the Best Actor award for the year for their performances in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Soorarai Pottru, respectively.

The best feature film, Soorarai Pottru, and best actress for Aparna Balamurali were also awarded. This movie is based on the life of G Gopinath, the creator of Simplifly Deccan. The prize for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment went to Tanhaji, a historical drama on the renowned Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare.
K R Sachidanandan, better known by his stage name Sachy, was awarded Best Director posthumously for the Malayalam thriller Ayyappanum Koshiyum, and Biju Menon was named Best Supporting Actor. At the age of 47, Sachy passed away from a heart attack in 2020.
In recognition of her performance in Sivaranjaniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, which also took home awards for Best Tamil Film and Best Editing, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli was named Best Supporting Actress.
Varun Buddhadev, a young actor in Toolsidas Junior, received a special jury mention for the best Hindi film.
Best Location Sound and Best Kannada Film were awarded to Dollu. Best Cinematography and Best Bengali Film awards went to Avijatrik.
Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam won Best Malayalam Film, while Colour Photo won Best Telugu Film.
The Most Film-Friendly State was chosen as Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh received special mentions. Vipul Shah, a director, is in charge of this year’s feature film jury, while Dharam Gulati, a member of the panel and a cinematographer, announced the winners.
The National Film Awards will be handed out in a ceremony later this year.
