Boy and Girl Names in the US: The decision about a baby’s name is serious. Often decided upon before the baby is born, it is one of the first and most significant choices a parent makes for their child.
The Social Security Administration report made official the most recent list of the most popular baby names of 2023 on May 10. Olivia ranked highest among girl names for the fifth year running, while Liam ranked highest among boy names. This year, the list of boy names featured just one new name: Mateo, which replaced Benjamin, who had been at number nine in 2022.
Mateo, which debuted at No. 11 in 2022, translates to “gift of God,” per BabyCenter. “Matteo,” another spelling, came in at number 184 in 2022.
A Friday news release stated that Liam was the most popular boy baby name in the United States for 2023. The announcement said that Olivia would be the most often-used name for baby girls in 2023.
