Who is Joe Burrow?

The Early Life and Background

Joe Burrow is descended from a family with a rich sporting heritage. His ancestors have a history of athletic accomplishments. In the 1940s, one of his grandmothers set a high school basketball contest record in Mississippi with 82 points. His grandfather played basketball at Mississippi State University.

Joe was born to parents Robin and James Lee Burrow in Ames, Iowa on December 10, 1996. At the time, his father, Jimmy Burrow, was a college football coach.

Joe’s uncle and two older siblings also played defence in football. His father, Jimmy Burrow, was an all-star defensive back in both the Canadian Football League and the National Football League, and he later retired as a collegiate football coach.

Due to his father’s position as an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Joe’s family attended the Rose Bowl for the first time in 2002, when Joe was a child. In 2003, his family relocated to North Dakota after his father was hired as the defensive coordinator at North Dakota State University in Fargo.

After spending two years in Fargo, they moved to Athens, where his father became the defensive coordinator at Ohio University. These relocations and his father’s coaching affiliations influenced Joe’s formative years.

Educational Background

Joe attended Athens High School between the years 2011 and 2014. This is where he began to excel in football, guiding his school to three consecutive playoff appearances and the school’s first seven playoff victories.

He threw for 11,416 yards with 157 passing touchdowns and carried for 2,067 yards with 27 rushing touchdowns during high school.

As a senior in 2014, he was honoured with the state’s Mr. Football Award and the Gatorade Player of the Year award. He also displayed his basketball talents and was named first-team all-state at point guard in his senior year.

Burrow received a four-star classification as a football recruit and was the eighth-ranked dual-threat quarterback for the class of 2015.

In May 2014, he committed to play football for Ohio State. The Athens City School District school board resolved in December 2019 to rename the football stadium in his honour.

During his time at LSU, Burrow accomplished significant feats. During the SEC Championship Game, he set the SEC single-season touchdown record by throwing four touchdown passes in LSU’s 37–10 victory over Georgia.

This win qualified LSU for the College Football Playoff. Burrow holds the record for most touchdowns scored in a single season in the history of NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

Burrow started his senior season against Georgia Southern by throwing for 278 yards and five touchdowns in a 55–3 victory. Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the SEC.

Following an extraordinary season with over 5,600 passing yards and 60 touchdowns, Burrow received the prestigious Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award.

During his college football tenure, he also won the Walter Camp Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Lombardi Award, and the Manning Award.

Joe Burrow’s NFL Progression

Joe Burrow’s first team in the NFL was the Cincinnati Bengals. He was the only novice quarterback to start the season’s first week following the draught.

In his second game against the Cleveland Browns, he threw his first touchdown pass of his career to C. J. Uzomah, a 23-yard completion. Burrow attempted 61 passes, completed 37 of them for 316 yards and three touchdowns, and set an NFL record for rookie quarterbacks despite the Bengals’ loss.

Two weeks later, Burrow won his first game of his professional tenure by defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also became the first quarterback to pass for 300 yards or more in three consecutive games as a rookie.

Burrow sustained a severe knee injury in the eleventh week of the season, tearing his ACL and MCL in his left knee while throwing a pass against the Washington Football Team. Burrow made a strong comeback in 2021, beginning in the first week and aiding the Bengals to a 2-1 victory after undergoing rehabilitation.

In the 16th week of the 2021 season, in a contest against the Baltimore Ravens, he threw for 525 yards, the fourth-most in NFL history for a single game.

Additionally, he broke Boomer Esiason’s franchise record for passing yards in a single contest. Burrow’s contributions propelled the Bengals to their first postseason berth since 2015 and a place in Super Bowl LVI.

Joe Burrow continued to play for the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2022 season. He was dubbed AFC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 481 yards against the Atlanta Falcons in week two. On December 21, 2022, he was selected for the first time in his career for the Pro Bowl.

Joe Burrow is a member of the Cincinnati Bengals as of 2020.

Burrow achieved numerous milestones in his first season with the Cincinnati Bengals, including becoming the first rookie quarterback to pass for 300 yards or more in three consecutive games.

Despite having his season cut short by injury, he had a significant impact, such as being the first NFL rookie to record 400 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown in a single game. In the NFL’s first eight games, he completed more passes (221) than any other player in league history.

Burrow led the Bengals to a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in his second season, securing the team’s first playoff berth since 2015. His performance in the postseason ended the Bengals’ playoff winless streak, and they won their first road playoff game since the 1990 season.

Burrow played a pivotal role in the Bengals’ momentous victory over the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, which led to their first appearance in the Super Bowl in 34 years.

Joe Burrow’s Net Worth

The majority of Joe Burrow’s $10 million net worth comes from his NFL career. He takes a novel approach to managing his income, opting to save all of his NFL salary and relying on endorsement agreements to cover his expenses.

Joe Burrow inked a four-year rookie contract with the Cincinnati Bengals that included an option for a fifth season. This contract’s total value is $36,190,137, with the entire quantity guaranteed at signing. He received a $23,880,100 signing bonus, and his average annual salary is $9,047,543.
