Canadian Tire Bank Triangle Credit Card Activation: Getting a new Triangle card is only the beginning. Before you start using it, it is important to complete the activation process. The exact process depends on whether you have a regular Triangle Rewards card or a Triangle credit card such as the Triangle Mastercard.
There is also an important difference between the two. A Triangle Rewards card is a loyalty card used to collect and redeem Canadian Tire Money®. It is not a credit card. Triangle credit cards are issued by Canadian Tire Bank and have a separate card activation process.
How to Transfer a Visa Gift Card Balance to Your Bank Account and What Options You Have
For a Triangle credit card, Canadian Tire currently provides an online activation page where cardholders can either sign in or activate the card without logging in. The online system asks for the card number, the 3-digit security code and identity verification. You may also need to create a 4-digit credit card PIN.
How to Activate a Triangle Credit Card Online?
The online method is usually the easiest way to get a new Triangle credit card ready for use. The official Canadian Tire Financial Services activation page provides two choices. You can sign in to your account or continue without signing in.
Start From the Official Activation Page
Open a browser and go to the official Triangle or Canadian Tire Financial Services website. The activation option is available through the Canadian Tire Financial Services card activation page.
When the page opens, you will see options to either sign in to activate your card or use the option called “Activate without logging in.” This is useful for people who have not yet created or enrolled in an online account.
Option 1: Activate After Signing In
People who already have an online account can first sign in. After logging in, they can start the card activation process from their account.
The system will ask for the information needed to identify the new credit card. You should have the physical card nearby because the card number and other security details may be required during the process.
Option 2: Activate Without Logging In
You do not necessarily need to sign in before activating the card. Select “Activate without logging in” and continue.
The official page also gives cardholders two choices, “I know my PIN” and “I don’t know my PIN.” The page then takes you through the relevant verification steps.
- Enter Card Details: Enter your credit card number and the 3-digit security code from the back of the card. Check the details carefully to avoid failed activation attempts.
- Verify Your Identity: Complete the security check and enter the verification code sent to your registered contact details if asked.
- Create or Confirm PIN: Create or enter your 4-digit PIN. Remember, the PIN is different from the 3-digit security code.

What Happens After Activation?

Once all the requested information has been entered and the security checks are completed, the activation is finished. The official page confirms the process with the message, “Your card has been successfully activated.”
You can then use the credit card according to its terms and conditions. Triangle credit card customers can also use the Triangle App and online account services to manage their card. These services can show transactions, account balances and CT Money information.
The Triangle App can also be used to manage a Triangle Rewards account and a Triangle credit card account in one place. Cardholders can check recent transactions and CT Money balances and can also pay their credit card statement through the app.
Supplementary Cards
There is one important rule for supplementary cards. Canadian Tire’s activation page says that a supplementary card can only be activated by the person whose name appears on that card. This means another family member should not try to activate a supplementary card on behalf of the person who is actually named on it.
Triangle Rewards Card vs Triangle Credit Card
The names can be confusing, but Triangle Rewards and Triangle Credit cards are not exactly the same thing.
- A regular Triangle Rewards card is a loyalty card. It lets members collect and redeem Canadian Tire Money® at participating Canadian Tire stores and several participating partner stores. Members can also use the Triangle App to access their rewards.
- Triangle credit cards are different because they are payment cards issued by Canadian Tire Bank. They can also be linked to the Triangle Rewards program, which means cardholders can collect Canadian Tire Money® while making eligible purchases.
The Triangle App makes it easier to keep both types of information in one place. A digital Triangle Rewards card can also be accessed through Triangle.com, the Triangle App or CanadianTire.ca after signing in.
