Details you Should have Before Activation
Before activating your CIBC credit card, keep your card with you. You may need the card number, expiry date and three-digit security code. Use a safe internet connection and only use the official CIBC website or mobile app. If you need to add your credit card as a payee for payments, CIBC gives these steps:
- Sign on to CIBC Online Banking
- Select “Bill Payments” and choose “Add or Edit Payees”
- Enter the payee name and select “Search”
- Choose the correct payee from the search results
- Enter your credit card number in the “Payee Account Number” box, then select “Next”
- Check the information and select “Add Payee” and confirm the request when asked and complete the one-time verification code step
How to Activate Your CIBC Credit Card?
Online
- Open your web browser and go to the official CIBC website.
- Open the credit card activation page or visit https://cibc.com/activate.
- Sign on to CIBC Online Banking with your existing details. CIBC also allows customers to register using their new credit card if they have not registered for online banking yet.
- Look for the card activation option.
- Enter the requested card information, including your card number, expiry date and three-digit card verification value.
- Select “Activate Card” and complete the instructions shown on the screen.

Mobile Banking App
- Open the CIBC Mobile Banking App.
- Sign in using your CIBC banking details.
- Open the “More” menu and select “Activate Card”.
- Enter the card details requested by CIBC.
- Follow the instructions on the screen and complete the activation.
Customers who do not have the app can also use their browser to sign on to CIBC Online Banking. CIBC provides links to its official app stores from the activation page.

You can also activate your CIBC credit card by phone. CIBC provides these numbers:

- Outside Canada and the U.S.: 514-861-4653
Keep your new credit card with you when you call. You may be asked to provide your card details or other information to confirm your identity.

Can You get Help at a CIBC Branch
CIBC lets customers find a Banking Centre and arrange to meet with the bank. However, its current dedicated credit card activation page mainly directs customers to Online Banking and the Mobile Banking App for activation.
