July 2026 TANF Cash Assistance: Thousands of eligible Tennessee households receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) through the state’s Families First program can expect their July 2026 cash assistance payment to be deposited on Tuesday, July 1, 2026, according to the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
Unlike SNAP benefits, which are distributed throughout the month based on Social Security numbers, Families First TANF cash assistance is generally issued on the first day of each month for ongoing approved cases.

To be eligible, applicants usually need to:
- Live in Tennessee
- Have a dependent child or be pregnant
- Meet Tennessee state income and resource limits
- Be a U.S. citizen or a qualified noncitizen
- Cooperate with child support rules when it applies
- Join work or training tasks unless they are exempt
- Follow a Personal Responsibility Plan that the state sets up

How Are TANF Benefits Actually Paid?
Once approved, benefits are sent electronically onto an EBT card. From there, recipients can withdraw cash at ATMs, or use the funds for eligible purchases anywhere EBT cash benefits are accepted.
Also, recipients can track transactions, pause their card if needed, and manage their accounts through Tennessee’s EBT services
What If Your July TANF Payment Did Not Show Up?
If you expected your July 2026 Families First payment but it hasn’t arrived, you should:
- First, double-check that your eligibility is still active
- Then see if any recertification paperwork is still pending
- Read any notices coming from the Tennessee Department of Human Services
- Reach out to your local Families First office or the EBT customer service line to get help
In many cases, missing paperwork, changes in household income or even a change in case status can slow down the benefits until everything is corrected and resolved
Difference Between TANF and SNAP Payments
Even though both programs can land on the same EBT card, they are not on the same timing rules.
Families First TANF cash assistance: Typically deposited on the 1st day of each month. USAGov explains the structure plainly: “Each state or tribal government runs its TANF program differently and has a different name.”
SNAP benefits: Deposited sometime between the 1st and 20th of the month, based on the last two digits of the recipient’s Social Security number.
