LIHEAP $100 Payment: Pennsylvania is giving many families a little more help with utility bills this summer. About 193,000 households will get an extra $100 through the state’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, better known as LIHEAP. The money is not something people need to apply for now. The Department of Human Services is sending it out automatically to households that already received a LIHEAP cash grant during the 2025-26 season.

The state said the payment is going to the same utility company that got the household’s original LIHEAP money. In simple words, the credit will show up on the energy account instead of coming as a paper check or direct deposit. Payments started moving to utility vendors on July 29.

Who can get the Extra $100

Not every LIHEAP family will get this extra payment. A household must have received LIHEAP during the 2025-26 season and must also include at least one person who is especially vulnerable to extreme heat or cold. That means a person with a disability, an adult aged 60 or older, or a child younger than six. Only one $100 payment will be given per household.

People who fit the rules do not need to call their county office or ask their utility company for the money. The state is using its own records to find the right households and send the benefit on its own. Eligible families will also get a notice telling them they qualify.

Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh said, “We know that even though winter is over, many Pennsylvanians may still need assistance with utility bills from last season,” and also said, “LIHEAP helps some of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens, children, older Pennsylvanians, people with disabilities, and low-income families make ends meet and keep their homes safer.”

What to do if the Credit Does Not Show up

Some households may need to wait a little while before the credit appears because the utility company has to post it first. If a family believes it qualifies but does not get a notice or does not see the credit, Pennsylvania says it can call the LIHEAP helpline at 1-866-857-7095. The helpline can also help with county assistance office information and future LIHEAP applications.

The regular 2025-26 LIHEAP season ended on May 8 after the state extended it. Pennsylvania says details for the 2026-27 season will be shared later this year. Until then, households that are still struggling can ask their utility company about payment plans, hardship help and other local support.
