Durand Cup 2023: Exciting Schedule, Dates, Teams, Fixtures, and Points Table

Durand Cup 2023: On August 3, the 132nd edition of Asia’s oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup 2023, began. This year’s competition is distinct in that 24 teams from the Indian Super League, I-League, and the Armed Forces are participating. The number of teams has increased from 20 the previous year, and they have been divided into six categories of four teams each. Three of these groups will compete in matches conducted in Kolkata, two will compete in Guwahati, and one will compete in Kokrajhar, Assam.

Teams are battling for a spot in the quarterfinals as the group stage of the Durand Cup nears its conclusion. The only team to have secured a place in the final eight is Chennaiyin FC, leaving seven spots open. Bangladesh Army and Shillong Lajong are the only two vanquished teams so far, having played and won their respective matches. The remaining clubs will now compete for the remaining seven places.

As the final week of the group stage approaches, let’s examine the scenarios for qualification within each group, as well as the rules for breaking ties if multiple teams finish with the same number of points.

If two or more teams have the same number of points, their performance against one another will be considered.

If the head-to-head record is also identical, the goal difference will be used to distinguish between the teams.

In the event that head-to-head and goal difference are tied, the total number of goals scored will be considered.

If both teams have scored the same number of goals, the team that has conceded fewer goals will be favoured.

If all of the preceding criteria are deadlocked, the number of yellow and red cards received by each team will be taken into account. The team with the superior disciplinary history will advance.

If all the above factors are still equal, the final decision will be determined by a random “toss.”
