Apple iOS 17.2 Release Date Is Just Days Away: iOS 17.2 is coming out soon, which will be the last big update for the iPhone this year. Find out what’s inside, if you can get it, why you should be happy, and when it will arrive.
It will be out soon after iOS 17.1.2, which is a security update. Click here to learn why you should get that update.
What it’s for
If your iPhone can run iOS 17, then you’ll be fine with iOS 17.2 when it comes out. This includes all phones made after the iPhone XS and XR, which came out in 2008. You can pretty much run iOS 17.2 on any Face ID iPhone, except for the very first one, the iPhone X. It also works with both the second- and third-generation iPhone SE models.
What It Has and Why It’s Great
The band Journal is the big deal, and it’s clear why. This is a brand-new app that lets you write about your life. So you can practice being thankful and feel better. You can set reminders to make sure you use it regularly and make it easy to remember events. All of it is safe behind Face ID or Touch ID, and all of your notes are private on iCloud. What makes it great: There are many writing apps out there, but this one will be built right into the iPhone and everything on it.
Something new is going to be added to the Action Button. There will now be a straight shortcut to Translate on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max only. This makes it easy to chat with someone in a different language or translate words. What makes it great: You can translate without having to open an app.
Shoot 3D video on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to get ready for the Apple Vision Pro. This means that the movie you watch on your iPhone will look like regular footage, but when you put on the Vision Pro headset, it will look like 3D.
It’s great because watching 3D video was one of the most mind-blowing things I did with the Vision Pro. It will be cool to gather stuff ahead of time.
More improvements will be made to the zoom camera on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max so that it can focus better on things that are far away.
Plus: Any change that makes a great camera even better is a good thing.
There’ll be more ways to customize Memoji with changes to body shape, and to fight spyware, Contact Key Verification and Contact Verification Code can make sure you’re messaging with the people you think you are. Messages will have an arrow that helps you quickly catch up on the first unread message in a conversation.
Lots of cool new features are coming to Messages, which is why it’s great.
The Weather app will be better by adding information about the next ten days’ worth of rain and snowfall, as well as the ability to customize rain, sunrise, air quality, and other factors. For example, a live moon calendar will be added.
Why it’s great: Information is power, and the more cool weather facts we can find, the better.
There’s more. It will be just as easy to share boarding passes and movie tickets with AirDrop as it is with NameDrop. Apple Music has changes to playlists, a new digital clock app, better autofill for fields in PDFs, and all iPhone 13 and 14 models can use a Qi2 charger. Also, if you’ve had problems with wireless charging in some cars, that should be fixed as well.
Date of Release
Good news: it’s only a few hours away. When will it come out? It will come out at 10 a.m. Pacific on or around that time. What day? It might change, but I think it will happen on Tuesday, December 12. It could be Monday, December 11, the day before, but I don’t think so. Apple likes to put out new products on Tuesdays.
Please come back because I’ll write about the launch as soon as it happens.
