What is Spotify HiFi: For years, Spotify HiFi rumors have circulated. And it appears that Spotify Supremium is imminent; continue reading to learn more about what that entails.
Spotify formally introduced a new tier in February 2021 that featured music of CD quality compressed in a lossless format, making it suitable for high-end headphones or speakers.
The company stated that the premium streams would “be available in select markets later this year.” We even obtained an advertisement featuring Billie Eilish. Since that time, the subject has remained dormant, and we are now approaching the conclusion of the year 2023.
At this time, the stream of audio listened to on Spotify is compressed in order to conserve bandwidth. There exist multiple approaches to accomplishing this. Spotify operates in AAC and Vorbis. However, they are alike in that they both employ “lossy” compression. As a consequence, segments of the audio file are discarded with the intention of diminishing the volume of transmitted data. Spotify Hi-Fi would provide lossless or CD-quality streaming; more on this below.
When will it be released?
We still do not know. Spotify co-president Gustav Soderstrom told The Verge following a 2023 presentation, “We will implement HiFi, but we will do so in a way that makes sense for us and our listeners.” Due to industry shifts, we were compelled to adjust. Additionally, Soderstrom stated that HiFi “is imminent.”” Spotify HiFi may be available by the end of 2023.
In 2023, what has Spotify announced?
Indeed, it so occurs. Much speculation circulated that Spotify HiFi might be (again) unveiled on March 8 at the organization’s annual Stream On event. The presentation instead introduced us to a variety of new programming, creator tools, and user features that are accessible through the service. In exchange, we received a TikTokified platform that featured additional Spotify-exclusive recordings and a newly announced scrollable layout, as announced by the company.
Additionally, we obtained the AI DJ application, which incorporates blends, algorithmic personalizations, and an MC into programs. The AI DJ function is now available in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Xavier ‘X’ Jernigan, whose voice presides over the program, guides listeners through the discovery of new music by recommending tracks and providing trivia about their favorite artists. Reportedly, all of these capabilities will be accessible to Spotify HiFi customers.

What is Spotify HiFi: What is ‘Supremium’?
In September 2023, an individual by the Reddit handle u/Hypixely discovered code for a ‘Supremium’ tier within the Spotify application. The deciphered code appears to validate a number of the speculations pertaining to Spotify HiFi. It is stated that advanced mixing tools, AI-powered playlists, and 24-bit lossless audio are all available.

Subsequent information regarding the existence of a Supremium tier has been published in a Threads post authored by Chris Messina. We may have a logo as well.
What is required to subscribe to Spotify Supremium?
While Spotify HiFi is expected to be a feature of the standard Spotify app, it is possible that it will not be available on the web app due to the company’s legacy of offering reduced bitrates. Lossless audio compression algorithms consist of FLAC, ATRAC from Sony, HD-AAC (which is already implemented in the Premium tier of Spotify), and Dolby True-HD.
Spotify has solely discussed CD-quality music in the context of its HiFi or Platinum tiers, avoiding the domain of hi-res music that surpasses CD sampling rates; therefore, playing it back shouldn’t require an excessive amount of specialized equipment.
With the usual caveats regarding analog connections, wired speakers or headphones should function without issue. However, if you prefer to use wireless headphones, ensure that both they and your player support a higher-bitrate Bluetooth codec, such as aptX HD Lossless or LDAC; otherwise, the additional data will be compressed during the final leg of its journey.

What is the cost?
Bloomberg has reported that the designation of the new tier will be Supremium. This leads to the conclusion that it will be a more expensive tier than the current Spotify Premium, which costs $9.99/£9.99.
In addition to the announcement of Supremium, u/Hypixely discovered a $19.99 price tag within the Spotify app code. Although the price may serve as a substitute, it is still a sign.
If Spotify were to implement a fee for lossless audio, it would contradict the business practices of other streaming platforms, including Tidal, Apple, and Amazon, which offer lossless streaming as an additional benefit for their current subscribers.
