Early Life
Élie Yaffa, better known by her stage name Booba, was born in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. Her mother was French, but her father was Senegalese, with Belgian and Mosellan ancestry. Yaffa briefly dabbled in breakdancing in the early 1990s, but he made his rap debut in 1994 as part of the hip-hop duo Lunatic with his friend Ali. They founded their own independent company after failing to land a record deal from a major label because of their contentious lyrics. “Mauvais oeil,” their debut and only album, was released in 2000. In 2003, Lunatic separated.
Career
Once the band disbanded, both members went on to produce solo L.P.s. Yaffa’s first solo album, “Temps mort,” was released in 2002. It became a “Gold Record” and peaked at number two on the French Albums Chart. Afterwards, Yaffa founded Tallac Records in 2004. After being released on Tallac Records, his third album “Ouest Side” shot to the top of the French charts and was certified a “Platinum Record.” Yaffa achieved “Double Platinum” status in 2010 after releasing his fifth album, “Lunatic,” named after his former hip-hop duo. The album peaked at the top of both the Belgian (Wallonia) and local charts.

Artists including Eminem, Jay-Z, Sexion d’Assaut, Stromae, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Shakira are known to have been influenced by him. AZ and Tallac Records released Yaffa’s seventh album, “Nero Nemesis,” in 2015. It went on to become a “Double Platinum” record and peaked at number one in both the Belgian and French albums charts.
