Dillard was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on December 14, 1986. Walter and Dorothy Dillard were both doctors in the Air Force when she was born. Their names are Chris and Crystal, and they all grew up with her in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism.
While working for President Barack Obama in the White House Offices of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, she was a link between the White House and the African American community. In 2012, she worked as a campaign assistant for President Barack Obama’s reelection.

Dillard won the title of Miss United States when she was 27 years old in 2013 and hasn’t looked back since.
