Ellie Goulding Biography: Born on December 30, 1986, Elena Jane Goulding rose to prominence in the UK music scene at the age of 23. Following the publication of her debut EP, “An Introduction to Ellie Goulding,” she won a singing competition while attending college and then won the Brit Award. Her unique soprano voice struck an instant chord. Her studio albums, “Lights,” “Halcyon,” and “Delirium,” have received mostly positive reviews from critics. She has been featured as a music and style icon in magazines such as “Elle” and “Glamour,” among others. I hope she has a wonderful birthday.

Ellie Goulding Biography:

Early Life

Goulding was born in Hereford, England, and later relocated to the east coast to attend the University of Kent to pursue a degree in theater. In addition to discovering electronica during her time at university, she had grown to adore folk music as a teenager. Two years later, she left her studies to pursue a career as an alternative singer/songwriter in West London. There, she became friends with producers Frankmusik and Starsmith, who gave her songs an electro-pop touch.

When early songs like “Starry Eyed” and a rendition of Sam Sparro’s “Black & Gold” were put up on taste-making websites in 2009, Goulding started to gain popularity online. Goulding quickly made the transition from the blogosphere to print media, receiving favorable reviews from well-known journals like The Guardian and receiving offers from record labels. In the end, she agreed to a major label contract with Polydor Records and started working on her debut record. She wrote songs for Diana Vickers, Gabriella Climi, and other artists in the meantime.

Career

Goulding won the BBC’s Sound of 2010, a poll of British music critics and industry insiders to find up-and-coming talent, in the last few weeks of 2009. Continuing with that momentum, she released her first studio full-length album, Lights, in March 2010 and mixed synthesized and acoustic elements. “Starry Eyed” became a Top Five single when the first album topped the UK charts in its first week of release. It also did well in Ireland and New Zealand’s charts. The album was reissued as Bright Lights later that year. Aside from a popular rendition of Elton John’s “Your Song,” the set featured the worldwide hit song “Lights,” which achieved five platinum certifications in the United States and reached the second position on the Billboard Hot 100.

With her follow-up album, Halcyon (2012), Goulding made a comeback, venturing into more experimental electronic sounds and darker lyrical matter. Home to the track “Anything Can Happen,” it was the song that launched her into the U.S. Top Ten and her second consecutive U.K. chart-topper. The next year saw the publication of a deluxe reissue called Halcyon Days, which added 10 more songs to the original album. Some of her biggest hits came from two of its songs: the Top Three single “How Long Will I Love You” and the number one song in the UK, “Burn.” Calvin Harris’s “I Need Your Love,” which was certified multi-platinum in the United States, Australia, and Canada, gave her another worldwide smash. “Outside,” another popular Harris song, helped to keep her firmly atop the worldwide charts.

In 2014, Goulding was featured on Band Aid 30’s rendition of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” and made her way back into the U.K. Top Ten with “Beating Heart,” a song from the Divergent soundtrack. “Love Me Like You Do,” another soundtrack hit, helped Fifty Shades of Grey become even more successful in 2015, reaching the top of several markets.

Goulding collaborated with Max Martin, Greg Kurstin, and other artists on her third studio album, Delirium, which was released in the same year. The single “On My Mind” was from the pop-influenced album, which peaked at number three on the charts in both the US and the UK. Goulding collaborated on some of her biggest songs for the rest of the decade, beginning with the electronic artist Kygo’s “First Time” in 2017. Another radio success the following year, “Close to Me,” brought her together with rapper Swae Lee and producer Diplo. She made cameos on Clean Bandit’s song “Mama” and rapper Juice WRLD’s song “Hate Me” in 2019 before resuming her own music with the singles “Flux” and “Sixteen.”

Goulding began the 2020s with two singles: “Slow Grenade” featuring Lauv and “Worry About Me,” a collaboration with American artist Blackbear. These songs were featured on Brightest Blue, her fourth full-length album, which was released that summer. The album was divided into two halves; side one, titled “EG.0,” showcased more mainstream-friendly material like her previously released singles with Blackbear, Lauv, Diplo, and Juice WRLD, while side two, titled “Power,” featured more experimental and vulnerable moments like the piano-based track “Flux” and the interpolation of Dua Lipa’s “Be the One.”

Her third UK chart-topper was the album. “Easy Lover,” a collaboration with rapper Big Sean (and the first taste of her next era), arrived in July 2022. Later that year, Goulding got into the holiday spirit for the EP Songbook for Christmas, featuring her stripped-down takes on classics like “O Holy Night,” Don McLean’s “Vincent,” and Elton John’s “Your Song.” On a different project, Goulding and Calvin Harris reunited for the first time since 2014 on the smash hit song “Miracle.”

In response to the gloom of the early COVID-19 epidemic, Goulding stuck to the dance floor and focused on healing with her fifth album of sparkling, neon-washed synth music. Higher than Heaven, which was released in the beginning of 2023, included the songs “Let It Die” and the bonus track “All by Myself” with Sigala and Alok.
