The person known by most as Jojo, Joanna Noëlle Levesque, was born in Brattleboro, Vermont. She was raised in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and Keene, New Hampshire. She has French, Polish, and Irish origins. Her mother, Diana Levesque, was trained in musical theater and sung in a chorus at her Catholic church.
Her father is Joel Maurice Levesque. When Jojo was four years old, her parents divorced, leaving her as an only child to be raised by her mother. Her childhood nickname was “JoJo.” When Levesque was seven years old, she sang a Cher song during an appearance on Bill Cosby’s television program “Kids Say the Darndest Things: On the Road” in Boston. Her gold-certified debut single, “Leave (Get Out),” was released in 2004. When this song debuted at the top of the Mainstream Top 40 chart, Levesque broke a record and became the youngest solo artist to have a number-one hit in the United States at the age of 13. Her debut album, “JoJo,” sold 95,000 copies in its first week and peaked at number 40 on the UK Albums Chart. In 2006, Levesque was chosen to play Hailey in the Emma Roberts and Sara Paxton film “Aquamarine.” With a $7.5 million budget, the movie debuted at number five when it was released on March 3, 2006.
