Sparks was born on December 22, 1989, in Phoenix, Arizona. Her parents are Phillippi Sparks and Jodi Jackson. Sparks is descended from Norwegian, German, English, Scottish, and African Americans. She was raised in the New Jersey suburb of Ridgewood and later went to Sandra Day O’Connor High School. During her teenage years, Sparks demonstrated her potential by winning many talent competitions, such as Coca-Cola’s “Rising Star” and “America’s Most Talented Kids.”
Career
During her audition for season six of “American Idol” in 2006, Sparks received a golden ticket to the Hollywood round. While competing on the show, Sparks developed a devoted following. Sparks became the sixth and youngest winner of “American Idol” when she won the sixth season of the competition in May 2007, at the age of 17. Not long after, she signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records. In August of 2007, the singer released “Tattoo,” her debut single. It has sold over two million copies in the United States and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 list. Sparks’ self-titled debut studio album was released in November of that same year.
