Simone Biles Biography: Age, Height, Net Worth, Personal Life and Early Years

Jos Buttler Career

Jos Buttler, a hard-hitting batsman and wicket-keeper, soon earned a reputation for annihilating bowling attacks. His introduction to competitive cricket occurred at a young age, and he played for Somerset’s Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17 youth teams. In school and junior cricket, he was a prolific run-scorer, and his consistent batting helped him rapidly ascend the ranks. Soon after, he was playing for Somerset’s second team and was considered a promising prospect for the shorter formats.

In 2009, he made his First-Class début after replacing the injured Justin Langer. Though he failed to seal his place in the First-Class side, his performances in the other formats earned him a call-up to the Somerset limited overs squad. With regular wicket-keeper-batsman Craig Kieswetter selected to play for England, Buttler was given more playing time in the Somerset team, where he scored 440 runs at an average of 55 in the CB40 series. Even after Kieswetter’s return to the Somerset lineup, his tremendous form and talent allowed him to keep his position in the eleven.

In 2010, Buttler was selected the Young Wisden School Cricketer of the Year. In 2011, Buttler was chosen for the T20 squad that would play India and West Indies at home. When he finally received a chance to bat in the second match against West Indies, he scored only 13 runs.

After a successful England Lions tour against Sri Lanka in early 2012, Buttler made his ODI debut in the UAE against Pakistan. He then replaced Kieswetter as England’s limited-overs wicketkeeper and scored his first fifty for England in a Twenty20 International against New Zealand. He was also instrumental in England’s 2013 Champions Trophy campaign. He continued to perform well in the One-Day International series against Australia, both at home and in Australia. He moved to Lancashire in 2013 and earned his first century for the county in June 2014.

Buttler played a crucial role in England’s voyage to the West Indies, as his aggressive 99 in the third ODI helped England post a massive total and win the series. He maintained his excellent form in T20s, but England lost the series. Additionally, he participated in England’s World T20 campaign in Bangladesh. Since he was granted consistent playing time by the selectors, the wicket-keeper batsman’s stature has risen. Buttler achieved his first ODI century off 61 balls during the home ODI series against Sri Lanka. This is the fastest century by an England batsman. When Matt Prior resigned from the Test squad following the defeat to India at Lord’s, Jos Buttler was called up and given his debut in Southampton. He earned a score of 85 on his very first test.

Buttler, like England, had a relatively unremarkable 2015 World Cup, with his only noteworthy tally coming against Bangladesh – a match that England shockingly lost and were eliminated from the tournament before the quarterfinals. Since then, Buttler has become an indispensable component of England’s One Day plans, scoring runs at a rapid rate. As a result of his swift runs, England became the team to defeat in the shorter formats of the game. Before the 2016 Indian Premier League auctions, Buttler’s multidimensional batting earned him a massive contract with the Mumbai Indians due to his ability to locate gaps in the field. Buttler appeared to have deteriorated in Tests, as opposed to the shorter formats of the game, where he performed admirably. He did not debut for England in whites until the very end of 2016, when his aptitude to bowl spin earned him a spot in the squad for Tests in Bangladesh and India. Buttler’s first taste of English captaincy occurred during the limited overs portion of the Bangladesh tour, after several senior members, including regular captain Eoin Morgan, declined to travel due to security concerns.

Buttler was given the opportunity to play in whites during the India leg and responded with a magnificent 76. After making his Test debut, Buttler was unable to secure a position in red-ball cricket, although he remained a member of the squad and played as a specialist batsman.

After several exceptional years, Buttler’s 2017 performance was merely average. Although there were a number of situations that necessitated immediate hitting, he struggled to generate runs. He did not achieve this consistently throughout the year. In 2018, Buttler’s performance was instrumental in England’s 5-0 ODI series victory over Australia. In the three-match series, Buttler scored two fifties and a dramatic century in the third game, stepping in at 27-4 to rescue England and propel them to a winning total.

England’s humiliating elimination from the 2015 World Cup was precipitated by Buttler’s dismissal during their match against Bangladesh. His valiant fifty against the Asian team was in futile, as England lost their final four wickets for only 22 runs. Before his 65 against Bangladesh, Buttler scored a cameo of 39 off 19 balls against Sri Lanka, but it was another losing knock. The wicket-keeper batsman was underutilized, and England did not advance to the elimination round.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain placed Jos Buttler in the same category as Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni, and Viv Richards after Buttler smashed England’s second fastest ODI century (he also holds the record for England’s fastest) just a few weeks prior to the 2019 World Cup against Pakistan. It was not an exaggeration in any way. With his 360-degree hitting, Buttler, a phenomenal talent, is able to single-handedly win matches for his team and place even the best bowling attacks under pressure.

Buttler, a member of England’s 2019 World Cup-winning team, made significant contributions throughout the tournament. Buttler was more of a finisher than an enforcer. He scored 312 runs at an average of 34.67, but his strike rate of nearly 123 per 100 balls was impressive. Buttler’s knocks at the close of the innings had bearings towards the end result – a superb World Cup title triumph.

In the first series following the pandemic in 2020, Buttler scored an outstanding 152 against the West Indies in the final Test, but was criticized for his fielding after missing several opportunities. Buttler scored an unbeaten 101 against Sri Lanka in the 2021 World T20 to become the first English batsman to achieve a century in all formats. Later the following year, in a match against the Netherlands in which England scored a record 498 runs, Buttler struck 162 runs unbeaten off 70 deliveries. This series marked the end of Eoin Morgan’s ODI career, and Buttler assumed control of the white-ball game. Later in 2022, Buttler led England to victory at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia while serving as captain. His contributions with the bat were crucial, and he was commended for his shrewd leadership.

Jos Buttler, despite being one of the most potent batsmen in the world, was unable to make his IPL debut due to the curfew imposed on English cricketers for participation. As soon as that restriction was lifted for the 2016 season onwards, Buttler undoubtedly commanded a high price, as the Mumbai Indians selected him. He alternated between the opening berth and the middle order, accumulating a few starts without achieving great success. Buttler continued to be utilized as a floater by the MI franchise during the 2017 season. It was evident that the tournament had not witnessed his finest form, just as international cricket had not for some time.

Buttler’s transfer to Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 auctions gave him a new lease on life, although he began as a middle order batsman for the franchise, similar to his time with Mumbai Indians. Buttler’s difficulties with the older ball were exacerbated by the fact that Jaipur’s surfaces were less conducive than those of Mumbai. Given that he batters at that position for England, it was a mystery. Buttler smashed five consecutive fifties to propel the Royals into the postseason after being promoted to the opening position late in the season. Since then, he has predominantly operated as an opener in Twenty20 cricket and excelled for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.

In the 2019 season, Buttler scored three half-centuries for the Royals in eight innings before returning home to prepare for the World Cup. Unfortunately, Buttler did not receive the necessary support from the other batsmen, and as a result, his performances were in futile, and Rajasthan had an average season. After being moved back into the middle order in 2020 to aid team equilibrium, Buttler’s performance was mediocre, and things did not improve in 2021 when he began batting at number four. The subsequent season, however, Buttler produced astounding statistics. Buttler scored four centuries, equaling Virat Kohli’s record, en route to 863 runs, the second-highest total in an IPL season, after being pushed back up the order. He won the Orange Cap and also the Most Valuable Player award in a season where the Royals faltered at the final hurdle to the Gujarat Titans.

Jos Buttler will captain England at the 2023 World Cup, and given his experience in the Indian Premier League, he will be eager to make an impact for the defending champions. Buttler has the capacity to combine caution and aggression, and England will expect him to perform at his best in order to defend their World Cup title. The flamboyant batsman enjoys batting in Indian conditions, and opposing bowlers must be wary of his exploits throughout the tournament.
