Domestic Career

Before making his 2007 debut for the Yorkshire Second Team, Root learned the fundamentals of the game at Sheffield Collegiate. His success with the second team led to his promotion to the first squad. Smith also played for England Under-19 against Bangladesh around the same time and was awarded Man of the Series.
