He grew up in a five-member Catholic family with two brothers, one of whom works as an actor. Buscemi, pronounced bu-SHEM-ee, was raised in the United States and spent the majority of his life mispronouncing his Italian last name. Early Life

Steve Buscemi was a firefighter who also took civil service examinations in an effort to obtain a “stable” career. His father urged him to focus on building a solid career before retiring and pursuing his acting ambitions. We are appreciative that they made a deal. Buscemi paid for acting school with settlement money from an accident and part-time work. “Tree Lounge,” his directorial debut, was influenced by this journey.

Career

Attending the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York, he was able to work with Eric Mitchell on his first acting role, “The Way It Is” (1985). His collaboration with the Coen brothers,, as a director team, started in 1990 with the neo-noir crime thriller “Miller’s Crossing.” They would work together on five films, the first of which is this one.

In the 1992 Quentin Tarantino film “Reservoir Dogs,” Buscemi participated in a diamond heist. In addition, he appeared in two of the Coen brothers’ biggest hits, “Fargo” (1996) and “The Big Lebowski” (1998). The gifted actor has also provided the voice of several well-known animated characters; Randall Boggs from “Monster, Inc.” (2001) stands out among them. He also brought to life Romero from the “Spy Kids” series and Seymour from the 2001 film “Ghost World.”

For his role in the drama series “Boardwalk Empire,” Buscemi was awarded a Golden Globe (2010). In 2011, he was the host of Saturday Night Live on N.B.C. Additionally, he won an Emmy for producing his own web series talk show, “Park Bench with Steve Buscemi,” in 2014.
